The BCMH Mission

BCMH is a synagogue for the entire family. We aim to promote growth in learning, spirituality, and Jewish social life while fostering a welcoming and safe environment for our diverse congregation in our quest to sanctify G-d’s name.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

Center of the Seward Park Jewish Community – BCMH is the not just a shul but a center for Jewish family life in Seattle. We have a multitude of opportunities in Torah learning, social programming for men, women, and children. We are in charge of the Seward Park Eruv, the Seward Park Mikvah, the Seattle Burial Chapel, and host the Derech Emunah Seattle Girls High School.

Multitude of Learning Opportunities – We have a number of learning opportunities for Men, Women, and Youth. Classes during the week and on Shabbos. We provide an offering of classes to all different levels.

Commitment to Israel – We emphasize our commitment to the Land and State of Israel through activities and programming.

Adherence to Halacha – Our synagogue is run according to the principles of halacha as interpreted by the leading Rabbis of our generation.

Tradition – BCMH was founded by a group of people in 1891 to provide Jewish services to the Seattle Jewish community, and expanded into the historic shul that we have grown to become today.

Serious and Inspiring Prayer – We are the only Ashkenaz synagogue in Seattle that has a minyan for every service required. We have a serious and inspiring tefillah where participation from the congregation is encouraged.

Variety of Social Programming – BCMH is also the hub of Jewish social life for the Seward Park community. We offer a variety of programs appealing to all segments of our synagogue with programming for the family, for adults, and specifically for women.

High Quality Youth Programming and Services – The youth of our shul are the future. Ari Hoffman, our Youth Director, has an amazing talent for providing a variety of high quality programming that is fun and educational for all ages. Shabbos morning there are separate services for the older children and youth groups for all children. The children join the rest of the congregation towards the end of services and take turns leading the davening. Shabbos afternoons, BCMH hosts children from across the community during our acclaimed KBY Shabbos Afternoon Youth Groups which comprises learning and social activities for children of all ages.

Dedication to our Community – We are focused on helping the greater Seattle community by hosting many events, organizing different projects, and being a center for a range of Jewish needs.

Welcome Diversity – Our membership reflects the diversity of Jews from different political, socio-economic, and geographic backgrounds. We are all united under the banner of Torah and Judaism and we welcome all Jews to join the BCMH family.

Strong Rabbinic Involvement – We take great pride in the relationship that Rabbi Yaakov and Rebbetzin Aliza Tanenbaum have with our members.
