The late sunrise effects the earliest time to make a beracha on tallis and tefillin. Note the effect of Daylight Time in March. Rav Moshe Feinstein rules that tallis and tefillin may be put on earlier (tallis any time, tefillin 72 minutes, or when absolutely necessary – 90 minutes before sunrise), but a beracha may be made no earlier than 35-40 minutes before sunrise. This time can shift daily, but for quick reference we provide these listings, based on 35 minutes.

Purim Donations: Please Give Before Purim!
Chesed Fund Distributes Matanos L’Evyonim
Throughout the year, we try to enhance our chagim with different personal expenditures: a beautiful new fruit for SheHechianu, a nicer esrog, a finer wine. Part of the beauty of Purim is enhancing our holiday by helping our fellow Jews, through the mitzvah of Matanos La’evyonim.
Many of us wait until Purim to give in our Matanos La’evyonim money, but the mitzvah is for it to be distributed on Purim itself. To make sure we are able to process and deliver the funds to the people in need in our community, please send your Purim checks to the shul office before Purim (the office will be closed over the holiday).
Checks should be payable to the “Chesed Fund” with the memo reading “Purim.”
Please note that Eva Genauer is no longer administering The Nathan Etkin Chesed Fund. She has done a tremendous service to our community for many years. Her stewardship has been a model for the new chair, Beth Balkany. Eva trained Beth over many meetings and hours of conversation. With deep appreciation we thank Eva for her many years of dedication.
AN EMAIL ABOUT THE MATZO FUND HAS COME TO YOU. PLEASE PLAN ON DONATING TO THIS NEXT IMPORTANT HOLIDAY CHESED PROJECT AS SOON AFTER PURIM AS YOU CAN.
